It is a material I design with.

Centuries of architecture, light and landscape are the raw substance of a celebration: a Renaissance courtyard, the silver light over a lake, the scent of a citrus garden at dusk. My work is to read a place and shape it around you, until the country itself becomes part of the story.

Rome

But Italy does not give itself easily. The most beautiful properties are protected monuments, with rules about what may be hung, lit or moved. Permissions run on their own calendar, not yours. The finest artisans have no websites, and the road to them is rarely the one on the map. A villa that photographs like a dream can have a single narrow entrance, no power beyond the courtyard, and a curfew at midnight. I carry the difficulty, so that Italy gives you only its beauty.

That is the other half of my work, and the half you will never see.
